Mind is the Master power that moulds and makes,
And Man is Mind, and evermore he takes
The tool of Thought, and, shaping what he wills,
Brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills:
- He thinks in secret, and it comes to pass:
Environment is but his looking-glass.
James Allen – Preface to the First Edition.
“As a Man Thinketh” was amongst the first books published in the “New Thought” genre and still remains, over a hundred years since its first appearance, one of the most widely read and best-loved examples of the philosophy. Allen’s essential idea that anyone can direct the fortunes and circumstances of their life by merely applying the correct “thoughtful” mindset, and thereby manifesting the same by imagining forcefully and coherently what they wish to achieve is as attractive a proposition in the 21st Century as it was when it was first conceived and written down in the early 20th Century.
The fundamental proposition of Allen’s philosophy forms the basis of many later works like “The Secret”, “Think and Grow Rich” and many other books that have subsequently been written on what is now widely called “The Law of Attraction.”
This particular volume, part of the series “Library of Thought”, has been produced by “Bridestone Books” and includes both a useful introduction to Allen’s thought and writing style, and also a brief biography which will help the reader in understanding where Allen’s ideas came from. All Bridestone Books are fully edited for typographical precision, decently bound and are produced in a clear, readily readable font.
